These adorable mummy pigs in a blanket are a quick and easy Halloween appetizer made with hot dogs wrapped in crescent roll dough, topped with candy eyes. They come together in about 25 minutes and are perfect for parties, potlucks, or spooky movie nights.

  • 8 hot dogs (standard size)
  • 1 can (8 oz) crescent roll dough
  • 16–24 candy eyes
  • 1 large egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
  • Ketchup or mustard (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Pat each hot dog dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture. Set aside.
  3. Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a clean, dry cutting board. If using perforated dough, press the seams together gently to create one solid sheet.
  4. Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, cut the dough sheet lengthwise into three long strips, each about 2 to 3 inches wide.
  5. Take one strip of dough and wrap it around a hot dog at a slight angle, leaving a small gap about a third of the way down for the eyes. Do not wrap too tightly.
  6. Place the wrapped hot dogs seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch of space between each.
  7. In a small bowl, whisk the egg with 1 tablespoon of water until smooth. Brush a thin, even layer over the exposed dough on each mummy.
  8. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until the dough is puffed up and golden brown. Start checking at 12 minutes.
  9. Remove from the oven and let the mummies cool on the pan for about 3 minutes.
  10. While still warm, gently press two candy eyes onto the exposed gap in the dough. Press lightly but firmly so they stick.
  11. Serve immediately or keep warm in a 200°F oven for up to an hour.

Notes

For best results, use all-beef hot dogs for better flavor and texture. If the dough feels too soft, refrigerate for 5 minutes before cutting. Leave a visible gap for the eyes to ensure they look like mummy faces. Check the oven at 10 minutes and rotate the pan if browning unevenly. For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free crescent roll dough.
