Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups cooked shredded chicken (rotisserie chicken works great)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1/2 cup buffalo wing sauce (Frank’s RedHot recommended)
  • 1/2 cup ranch dressing (or blue cheese dressing)
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese (Tillamook recommended)
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 large round loaf of bread (sourdough or rustic Italian, about 8–9 inches wide)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • Pinch of garlic powder (for butter)
  • 1/4 cup extra shredded cheddar cheese (for topping)
  • Extra green onions for garnish (optional)
  • Celery sticks and carrot sticks for serving (optional)
  • Extra buffalo sauce for drizzling (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Position the rack in the middle.
  2. Prepare the bread bowl: Using a serrated knife, cut a circle in the top of the bread, about 2 inches from the edge. Set the top aside. Pull out the soft bread from the inside, leaving a 1-inch thick wall. Save the bread pieces for toasting.
  3. Make the dip filling: In a large mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, buffalo wing sauce, ranch dressing, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix until smooth and well combined.
  4. Fold in shredded chicken, 1 cup cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese, and sliced green onions. Stir until evenly distributed. Taste and add salt and pepper if needed.
  5. Stuff the bread bowl: Place the hollowed-out bread loaf on a baking sheet. Spoon the dip mixture into the bread bowl, packing it gently. Fill to the top.
  6. Brush and top: In a small bowl, mix melted butter with a pinch of garlic powder. Brush this mixture all over the outside of the bread loaf and the bread lid. Sprinkle remaining 1/4 cup cheddar cheese on top of the dip. Place the bread lid on the baking sheet next to the stuffed loaf.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until the dip is bubbling and the cheese is melted and lightly golden. If the bread browns too quickly, tent with aluminum foil.
  8. Rest and serve: Let the bread bowl rest for 5 minutes. Garnish with extra green onions if desired. Serve with the bread lid, celery sticks, and carrot sticks.

Notes

Don’t overstuff the bread bowl; leave about half an inch of space at the top. Soft cream cheese is non-negotiable to avoid lumps. Use rotisserie chicken to save time. Toast the bread pieces for dipping. Watch the bread color and tent with foil if needed.
