This tender and savory turkey meatloaf, made with oats and a sweet-tangy glaze, is a healthy comfort food classic. It’s moist, flavorful, and perfect for a cozy night in.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs (900g) lean ground turkey (93/7)
  • 1 cup (80g) old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely grated (about 1 cup)
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • ½ cup (120ml) ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang on the long sides.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder to make the glaze. Set aside.
  3. Peel the onion and cut it in half. Using a box grater, grate the onion over a bowl. Do not drain the juice. You should have about 1 cup of grated onion.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, oats, grated onion (with juice), beaten eggs, minced garlic, 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, thyme, smoked paprika, salt, pepper, and olive oil.
  5. Use your hands to gently mix everything together until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Transfer the meat mixture to the prepared loaf pan and gently press it into an even shape. Spread about half of the glaze evenly over the top.
  7. Place the loaf pan on a baking sheet and bake for 50-60 minutes. At the 40-minute mark, carefully remove the meatloaf from the oven and spread the remaining glaze over the top. Return to the oven to finish baking.
  8. Check for doneness: the meatloaf is done when an instant-read thermometer inserted into the center reads 165°F (74°C).
  9. Let the meatloaf rest in the pan for at least 10 minutes before slicing. Use the parchment paper overhang to lift it out, transfer to a cutting board, slice, and serve.

Notes

Don’t skip the grated onion; it adds moisture. Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing to keep it from crumbling. Use an instant-read thermometer to ensure it reaches 165°F (74°C).
