This cozy slow cooker pumpkin spice applesauce is a set-it-and-forget-it fall staple. Made with simple ingredients like apples, pumpkin puree, and warm spices, it fills your home with an irresistible aroma and delivers a smooth, caramelized sweetness.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced (about 6 cups)
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup apple cider (optional)
  • 1 vanilla bean or 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1/4 cup dried cranberries (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your apples: Peel, core, and dice your apples into roughly 1-inch chunks. Toss with lemon juice to prevent browning.
  2. Combine ingredients in the slow cooker: Add diced apples, pumpkin puree, maple syrup, pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, ginger, and salt. Stir until apples are evenly coated.
  3. Cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours. Stir halfway through cooking.
  4. Check for doneness: Apples should be very tender and fall apart easily when pressed with a fork.
  5. Adjust the texture: Use an immersion blender for smooth applesauce or a potato masher for chunky.
  6. Taste and adjust: Add more maple syrup or spices if desired.
  7. Cool and store: Let cool to room temperature, then refrigerate in airtight containers for up to 2 weeks or freeze for up to 3 months.

Notes

Don’t add water; apples release enough liquid. Use low setting for deeper flavor. Leave the lid on to avoid extending cooking time. For a thinner consistency, add apple cider. For less sweetness, reduce or omit maple syrup.
