A quick and easy holiday punch made with cranberry juice, ginger ale, and sparkling water. This festive, non-alcoholic drink is perfect for holiday gatherings and can be spiked with vodka or bourbon if desired.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups (950 ml) cranberry juice, preferably 100% juice
  • 3 cups (710 ml) ginger ale or ginger beer
  • 2 cups (475 ml) sparkling water, plain or lime-flavored
  • 1 cup (about 100 g) fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1 large orange, sliced into thin rounds
  • 1 lime, sliced into thin rounds
  • 1 (2-inch) piece fresh ginger, peeled and sliced into thin coins (optional)
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons (30 to 45 ml) simple syrup or honey (optional, to taste)
  • Ice (large block or large cubes)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your ice ring or ice block: If making a decorative ice ring, do this the night before or at least 4 hours ahead. Arrange fresh cranberries and thin citrus slices in a ring mold or bundt pan. Fill with water (or cranberry juice for a deeper color) and freeze solid.
  2. Slice your citrus: Wash your orange and lime thoroughly. Slice them into thin rounds, about 1/4 inch (6 mm) thick. Set aside.
  3. Prepare the fresh ginger: If using fresh ginger coins, peel the ginger with a vegetable peeler or the edge of a spoon. Slice it into thin rounds, about 1/8 inch (3 mm) thick. Set aside.
  4. Combine the base liquids: In your punch bowl or beverage dispenser, pour in the 4 cups of cranberry juice. Add the 3 cups of ginger ale or ginger beer. Stir gently with a large spoon.
  5. Add the sparkle: Just before serving, pour in the 2 cups of sparkling water. Give it one or two gentle stirs.
  6. Adjust sweetness: Taste again. If the punch is too tart, stir in 2 to 3 tablespoons of simple syrup or honey. Start with less and add more as needed.
  7. Add the garnishes: Drop in the fresh or frozen cranberries. Float the citrus slices on top. Add the fresh ginger coins if using. If you made an ice ring, carefully unmold it and float it in the punch.
  8. Serve immediately: Ladle the punch into cups, making sure each serving gets a few cranberries and a slice of citrus. If using a beverage dispenser with a spigot, place a few cranberries and a citrus slice in each cup before filling.

Notes

For a spiked version, add 1 to 1.5 cups (240 to 360 ml) of vodka, bourbon, or white rum. For a sugar-free version, use diet ginger ale and unsweetened cranberry juice. Leftover punch can be stored in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days, but it will lose carbonation. To revive, add a splash of fresh sparkling water or ginger ale before serving.
