A quick and easy recipe for thick-cut bacon glazed with a sweet and boozy maple bourbon mixture, resulting in a perfectly candied, crunchy treat ideal for brunches and gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 thick-cut bacon slices
  • ½ cup (120 ml) pure maple syrup (Grade A amber)
  • 2 tablespoons (25 g) brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) bourbon (e.g., Buffalo Trace or Maker’s Mark)
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • Pinch of freshly cracked black pepper
  • Smoked paprika (optional, for smoky kick)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a rimmed baking sheet with foil and place a wire rack on top.
  2. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine maple syrup, brown sugar, and bourbon. Stir occasionally until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is warm but not boiling, about 3–5 minutes.
  3. Remove the glaze from heat and stir in vanilla extract and freshly cracked black pepper.
  4. Place the bacon slices in a large mixing bowl and pour the warm glaze over them. Toss gently to coat every strip evenly.
  5. Arrange the glazed bacon strips in a single layer on the wire rack, leaving space between each slice.
  6. Bake for 15 minutes, then carefully flip each slice with tongs and brush with any remaining glaze.
  7. Bake for another 10–15 minutes until the bacon is sticky, golden, and crisp to your liking.
  8. Remove from oven and let cool on the rack for 5 minutes to allow the glaze to set.
