These no-bake ham and Swiss pinwheel appetizers are perfect for tailgating. Made with a creamy Dijon-spiked cream cheese spread, they come together in minutes and are always a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder (optional)
  • 6 large flour tortillas (burrito-sized, about 10 inches)
  • 12 slices deli ham (thinly sliced)
  • 12 slices Swiss cheese (thinly sliced)
  • Fresh parsley or chives, finely chopped for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Make the cream cheese spread: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, and onion powder. Beat with a hand mixer on medium speed until smooth and fluffy—about 2 minutes. If using a spatula, mash and stir until no lumps remain. Taste and adjust seasoning if desired.
  2. Prepare your work surface: Lay a large flour tortilla flat on your cutting board. Spread about 2 tablespoons of the cream cheese mixture evenly over the entire surface, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
  3. Layer the ham and cheese: Place 2 slices of ham flat over the cream cheese, overlapping slightly to cover the tortilla. Then lay 2 slices of Swiss cheese on top of the ham.
  4. Roll it up tight: Starting from one edge, carefully roll the tortilla as tightly as you can without tearing it. Use your fingers to tuck and press as you go. When you reach the end, press down lightly to seal the edge. If the tortilla doesn’t stick, dab a tiny bit of cream cheese on the edge to act as glue.
  5. Wrap and chill: Place the rolled tortilla seam-side down on a piece of plastic wrap. Wrap it tightly, twisting the ends like a candy wrapper. Repeat with the remaining tortillas. Place all wrapped rolls on a baking sheet or plate and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (overnight is even better).
  6. Slice and serve: When ready to serve, unwrap each roll and place it on a cutting board. Using a sharp knife, slice off the very ends and discard. Then slice the roll into 1-inch pieces. You should get about 8 to 10 pinwheels per tortilla. Arrange on a serving platter, cut-side up. Garnish with chopped parsley or chives if desired.
  7. Pro tip for clean slices: If the pinwheels are squishing as you cut, your knife isn’t sharp enough. Try using a serrated knife with a gentle sawing motion. Wipe the blade clean between cuts to prevent the cream cheese from smearing.

Notes

Chilling is essential for clean slices. Make ahead up to 24 hours for best flavor. For a spicy twist, use pepper Jack cheese instead of Swiss. For a vegetarian version, skip the ham and layer roasted red peppers, spinach, and cucumber.
