A sweet, smoky, and boozy bourbon peach BBQ sauce that perfectly complements grilled chicken with a caramelized, sticky coating. Quick and easy to make, ideal for weeknight meals or impressing guests at cookouts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large fresh peaches, peeled and diced
  • 1/4 cup bourbon
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Peel and dice about 2 large ripe peaches into small pieces (about 5 minutes). Optionally blanch peaches in boiling water for 30 seconds to loosen skin.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add diced peaches and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened and juices release.
  3. Carefully pour in 1/4 cup bourbon and stir. Let simmer for 2 minutes to cook off alcohol and concentrate flavor.
  4. Stir in 1 cup ketchup, 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar, 1/4 cup packed brown sugar, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon smoked paprika, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder, and salt and black pepper to taste. Mix thoroughly.
  5. Reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for 20-25 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes to prevent sticking and encourage thickening until sauce darkens and becomes glossy.
  6. Optional: Blend sauce with immersion blender or regular blender for smoother consistency.
  7. Taste and adjust seasoning with more salt, pepper, or vinegar if desired. Add a dash of water if sauce is too thick.
  8. Let sauce cool to room temperature before serving or storing. Store in airtight container in fridge up to one week.

Notes

Use ripe peaches for best sweetness and juiciness. Simmer sauce gently to avoid burning and bitterness. Cook bourbon off for 2 minutes to remove alcohol but keep flavor. Sauce thickens as it cools; reheat gently with water or bourbon to loosen. Sauce tastes better after resting overnight. Vegan version: substitute brown sugar with coconut sugar and use vegan Worcestershire sauce. For spicier sauce, add cayenne or smoked chili powder.
